High Friction Surfacing laid in record time at Blackwall Tunnel, London
Due to the nature of our specialist surfacing we often join projects close to completion. This can often mean our time spans have been shortened due to previous over-running works. This was exactly the case when we worked on high friction surfacing for Blackwall Tunnel, East London in October 2015.
Glendining Highways had just 7 hours to lay 1500m2 of specialist high friction surfacing on this job, something which we completed with (a little) time to spare! The Blackwall Tunnel is vital to traffic movement in the East London area as a major crossing underneath the River Thames with extremely high levels of traffic. We were contracted to install HFS as part of ongoing works to improve safety in and around the tunnel.
The job we did at the Blackwall Tunnel site made us extremely proud due to the exceptional work rate of 1500m2 of anti-skid surfacing laid in 7 hours. This meant that the tunnel could open up to traffic on schedule, decreasing the impact on London drivers.
The job was made easier due to the fact that in the summer of 2015 we invested in two new 18 tonne DAF high friction surfacing vehicles along with two new sweepers to complement our existing fleet. Increasing our fleet is always a benefit for our clients as we can accommodate works that can sometimes be required at very short notice.
